High Ercall Memorials

You can’t help but notice the very impressive Memorial which sits with pride on the area on the corner of Shrewsbury Road (opposite The Cleveland Arms). It is some years since the Parish Council was approached to fund-raise and provide a lasting memorial to those who give their lives in both the First and Second World Wars.

This area provides a place of peace where people can sit in quiet reflection. We are very grateful to everyone who helps with grass-cutting and maintenance of this significant place in our Parish. (please add the photo attached)

Working with the Royal British Legion, the Parish Council holds a short Act of Remembrance on 11th November annually.

In 2024, the Parish Council was approached by the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust UK. Director General Kenneth Bannerman was proud, and excited, that we were to receive a stone memorial acknowledging the significance of High Ercall Airfield which was opened on 1st October 1940 and closed on 1st February 1964. On 12th April, guests including Claire Crackett MBE DL and Councillor Arnold England (Mayor of the Borough of Telford & Wrekin) joined the Chairman, Councillor Kevin Connor and Councillors unveil the Memorial outside the gates of Greenhous Village which is near to the original gatehouse on the Airfield.
