Speed Indicator Devices

Ercall Magna Parish Council considers speeding within the Villages and on our narrow roads and lanes to be a priority. The Councillors regularly receive reports from local residents who share concerns about anti social driving and speed and are always willing to discuss specific areas of concern with the police and highways authority.

As a project to highlight the concerns, a Speed Indicator Device (SID) was purchased, along with six sockets and all the associated parts that were needed. The sockets are sited around the Parish at the following locations:

  • B5062 Cotwall Bend
  • B5063 near Earl’s Way, High Ercall
  • B5062 between High Ercall and Cotwall
  • Poynton
  • Ellerdine
  • A442 Cold Hatton

Funding to assist with this project was welcomed from the Police & Crime Commissioner and Councillor Stephen Bentley (TWC Ward Member).

Following the success of this project, and further concerns regarding the speed of traffic on the B5062 Shrewsbury Road between the Cleveland Junction and Sherlowe Junction, another SID has been installed. This one is a permanent site and powered by a solar panel (rather than batteries). It can be adjusted to record from either direction.

The data collected from our SIDs is used to provide evidence to West Mercia Police and TWC Highways Department. The equipment records all speeds, with dates and times. It can also provide statistics which are vital for the authorities to take further actions.

Here is an example of the information available from the devices.

The Councillors are awaiting a quotation for a further permanent site in Silver Hill. We are working with Grennhous Village to make this area of the village safer for all road users and pedestrians.
