Happy Halloween 🎃
The weekend kicks off with a spooky Halloween Disco at Telford Ice Rink tonight from 6.15pm, so if you're looking for some frightfully good family fun, there's still time to join in.
As autumn settles in, with colder mornings, darker evenings and winter weather on the horizon, our teams have been busy preparing for the months ahead. From clearing gullies and maintaining roads to strengthening flood resilience and readying our gritting fleet, we're working behind the scenes to keep Telford and Wrekin moving safely through the winter. Read more about what we've been up to below.
Residents can play their part too. If you spot a blocked gully, pothole, damaged sign or an issue with a grit bin, please report it through the My Telford app or on our website.
This week, we're also highlighting the final preparations taking place at war memorials ahead of Remembrance Sunday, celebrating continued investment in local communities through the Councillors' Pride Fund, sharing improvements to our road network, welcoming another new independent business to Oakengates and more.
Don’t forget to book your place for our Early Years Conference in Telford Town Centre on Friday 20 November, from 9.30am to 4pm. This week's top stories....
Final preparations underway at war memorials

Preparations for Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day are underway, with war memorials across the Borough receiving their final clean and refresh.
The work forms part of the Council's year-round commitment to preserving these important local landmarks for future generations.
Behind the scenes: preparing for winter

We're winter ready - and have been getting ready all summer. Teams across Telford and Wrekin have been clearing gullies, maintaining roads, improving flood resilience and getting our gritting fleet ready for colder weather.
With more than 1,000 grit bins across the Borough and 3,000 tonnes of salt stocked, we’re working to keep Telford and Wrekin moving safely whatever the weather brings.
Councillors’ Pride Fund extended

The Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, Cllr Lee Carter, has this week reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to the Councillors’ Pride Fund, with £1.08 million set aside over the next four years. Since 2011, the scheme has invested more than £2.5 million in community projects, helping local groups improve neighbourhoods and strengthen community spirit.
Young Carers Service relaunches

Young carers and their families across the Borough can now access enhanced support through the relaunched Young Carers Service.
The Young Carers Service is a now delivered through a new partnership, which includes Telford & Wrekin Council’s Family Help and Education teams as well as Telford & Wrekin CVS (TWCVS).
The service works with schools and Family Hubs to identify and support young carers and their families, helping children and young people balance caring responsibilities while still having time to learn, grow and enjoy being young.
£400,000 improvements to Limekiln Roundabout completed

We’ve completed a £40k programme of improvements at Limekiln Roundabout, as we continue to invest in the roads and infrastructure that people across Telford and Wrekin rely on every day.
This investment has delivered improvements at an important part of Telford’s road network and is another example of the practical work taking place across the Borough to maintain and improve our highways.
Business owners fined following waste management offences

The owners of a Telford convenience store have been fined more than £8,000 after admitting they failed to manage waste properly.
At Telford Magistrates' Court last week, Mr and Mrs Bhakar, owners of Finger Road Stores in Dawley, pleaded guilty to two offences of failing, upon request, to provide waste management documentation to the local authority and one offence of failing to ensure that controlled waste was transferred only to an authorised person.
The prosecution followed an investigation by Telford & Wrekin Council.
Ureys brings global tastes to Oakengates

Popular street food takeaway Ureys has reopened at 41 Market Street in Oakengates this week.
We've supported owner Norma with a start-up grant through our Pride in Our High Street programme and this business opening is all part of the wider regeneration of Oakengates.

Early detection matters: Free breast screening available

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to an end, it's a timely reminder that free NHS breast screening is available for women aged 50 to 70 who are registered with a GP in Telford and Wrekin.
Breast screening can detect cancer early, often before symptoms appear, giving the best chance of successful treatment. If you receive an invitation, please make time to attend. It’s now even more local that before, as there is a trial of a new mobile breast screening location at Court Street Medical Practice from now until February 2027 so request that location for your appointment.
Early detection could save your life.
